Kent Cubs International Camp Fires

800 Cubs and Leaders enjoyed two afternoons held at Hopehill Camp Site, Gravesham during the weekend of the 24th and 225th September 2005.

The Cubs travelled around the world, visiting different countries and when they completed activities they got their passports stamped. The activities were all provided by the Packs who took part and they all went to a fantastic effort with decorated tents, gazebos and activities which matched their chosen country. Cubs had the chance to take part in human football, Monte Carlo rally racing, Olympics, crafts from all over the world, crickets, camel racing and lots of other activities. On completion of their passports everyone received a special camp fire blanket badge.

The Hullabaloo roadshow opened the afternoon with a countdown and provided entertainment and the opportunity for the Cubs to have a go at circus skills throughout the afternoon.

The Gravesham and Ashford Fellowships kept everyone well refreshed with copious cups of tea and squash. It certainly helped to wash down the popcorn – part of the USA!

The rousing camp fire singing were led each afternoon, by Paul Barker who enlisted the help of willing volunteers to assist with some of the songs. A spectacular opening to the camp fires was led by Ken Ridgway with the help of four Cubs who lit the mini camp fire, which in turn lit the big one, which had been constructed by Bill Joyce.

During the afternoon, we collected small change for the Scout Association Tsunami Appeal and we raised approximately £210.00. Well done everyone.
