Kent Beaver Scouts 18th Birthday Celebration 2004

On the 2nd and 3rd October 2004 more than 1660 Beaver Scouts and Leaders experienced a great day out at Wildwoods Discovery Park, Herne Common, Herne Bay. Kent , to celebrate the 18th birthday of beaver scouting in Kent.

The young people took part in a host of fun events, including competitions, trails and hands on activities, as well as getting nose to nose with members of Wildwood's unique collection of British wildlife and meeting a king-size beaver.

The birthday party took place at Ross wood Campsite which is directly next door to Wildwood's and is an excellent place to host a Beaver scout Sleepover and view the animals at dusk!

The Hullabaloo road show entertained the young people and there Leaders and Vivienne Burrows Deputy County Commissioner for Kent scouts presented prizes to the winners of the poster completion and cut the Birthday cake.
Kent Beavers made a donation towards Wildwood's conservation work during the weekend.

The event represented months of planning and organization for the Association. Assistant County Commissioner for Beavers Scouts Kathy Smith said 'Beaver Scouts have made a tremendous impact on the family of Scouting and the record numbers here this weekend is a testament to their enthusiasm and the support of the Leaders'.

Wildwood's chief executive Peter Smith: 'We are delighted to be welcoming Kent Beaver Scouts on this wonderful occasion. The beaver scouts raised money to help us bring in a family of Polish beavers when Wildwood started in1999 and have been strong supporters of our work ever since. They have followed the innovative pilot project between Wildwood and Kent Wildlife Trust to bring back beavers to Kent with great interest.

This event was supported by a large number of volunteers from all over Kent which gave the Beaver Scout section the opportunity to take part in friendship and fun in an educational environment to promote the wider picture of Scouting in Kent.
