Undo the Knot - A Conference for Cub Scout Leaders in Kent

17th November 2002 - The North School, Ashford, Kent

200 Cub Scout Leaders from Kent came together for a day conference to help them extend their understanding and knowledge of the New Programme.

Leaders heard Sarah Hobbs, the Programme and Development Manager for The Scout Association; highlight the areas of the programme which pertain to the Cub section.

John May, Chairman of the Committee which devised the programme gave a highly entertaining and inspirational talk about life as an 8 year old and the place they have in society. John said it was the biggest County Cub Leaders gathering he had ever been to, and was kind enough to say that Kent Cub Scouts had a reputation for events such as the conference countrywide.

During the afternoon the Leaders were able to discover information about a range of topics that are particularly important to scouting and the section - risk assessment, crafts, self review, new ideas, activities and camp ideas to mention just a few of the 30 different bases that ran during the afternoon. Leaders went home loaded up with craft ideas, sweets they had made and leaflets/handouts they had picked up.

We were pleased to be joined by the President of Kent County Scout Council, Lord Patrick Mayhew, the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress for Ashford, the County Commissioner, Kelvin Holford and the District Commissioner for Ashford, Pauline Saunders.

Ashford Fellowship provided a splendid lunch and refreshments throughout the day - thanks to them.

By the end of the day we certainly did feel we had "Untied the knot", and that Cub Scouting in Kent is moving forward and is in safe hands with a superb team of Cub Leaders who work with young people in the County.
