Kent Cubs "Stepped Back in Time"

Kent Cubs Stepped Back in Time on the Kent & East Sussex Railway and Invaded Bodiam Castle.

To celebrate 100 years of Scouting, 800 Cubs and their Leaders from all over Kent took over the Kent & East Sussex Railway on Saturday 12th May 2007 and Stepped Back In Time. The railway operated special trains throughout the day from Tenterden Station to transport the Cubs to Bodiam Station in East Sussex. Once there the Cubs walked the short distance and invaded Bodiam Castle.

A specially commissioned show by Heathcliff Heroics took place at the Castle and the Cubs were treated to a display of jousting, archery and long bow sharp shooting. After the show the Cubs got the chance to meet the knights and get close up to the massive horses.

The Cubs explored the ruins of the Castle and met several characters around the grounds who explained what they would have done in days gone by. The battlements were very popular and the twisty staircases took a lot of concentration to get up and down!

The Cubs completed a treasure hunt around the castle and were all rewarded with a special Centenary gift of a torch. They were then transported back to Tenterden Station and got the chance to have a look around the engine sheds and museum before making their way home!

The staff at the National Trust and at the Kent & East Sussex Railway were extremely complimentary about the behaviour of the Cubs and it was great that we were seen out and about celebrating our Centenary. Thanks for everyone for making the day so special!
