Cubs Big Day Out

Kent Cubs celebrated 90 years of Cub Scouting on Saturday 7th October 2006 with a massive Big Day Out at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham. Over 2,500 Cubs and Leaders from all around the County came along for a day of fun and activities.

During the day the Cubs got the chance to board and have a look around historic ships and a submarine, walk the quarter of a mile long ropery, make their own piece of rope and have a go at being an RNLI lifeboat crewmember. Everyone also got the chance to sail on the paddle steamer, Kingswear Castle along the River Medway.

The Chief Scout, Peter Duncan paid a surprise visit and met lots of Cubs and Leaders during the day and was happy to pose for hundred of photos. He assisted with the unfurling of a special ensign bought to commemorate the day by Kent Cubs on HMS Cavalier.

The Deputy Chief Scout, Peter Nicol and the National Commissioner for Cubs - Jean Stuart also joined in the fun and met loads of Cubs and leaders from around the county.

During the last few months Kent Cubs have been raising money for the RNLI to have a lasting legacy of the year - and a giant cheque for almost £4000 was presented to Naomi, a crewmember from Dover and Captain Stormit at the party held to round off the day.

Hullabaloo, Kent's own party roadshow supplied the music and the pyrotechnics. Every Cub had a special commemorative drinks bottle and everyone had cake and a fruit shoot (kindly supplied by Robinsons). Meridian TV came along and we had our moment of fame on the TV.
