Loose Swiss Big Night Out

Loose Swiss Scout Group, one of the oldest groups in Kent, joined over 10,000 Scouts camping across Kent as part of the ‘Big Night Out’.

82 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts joined more than 30 Leaders, Young Leaders and supporters from Loose Swiss Scout Group and gained their special ‘Big Night Out’ camping badge.

Loose Swiss, founded in 1908, chose a Robin Hood theme for their camp to suit the setting in the woodlands of Loose Swiss Valley, just outside Maidstone.  The camp included space hopper jousting, prusiking in the trees (the most popular activity by far), decorating wood with branding iron patterns, leather wristband stamping, trebuchet, ballista, Dutch Arrows, a rousing and very lively campfire sing song and a huge water slide, most importantly, plenty of camp cake to keep everyone’s strength up!   Members of the Group from 6 years old to 76 years old took part in these exciting and adventurous activities over the weekend.

The Group was particularly delighted to welcome two very special guests on the Sunday of camp when the highest ranking Scout in the UK, Wayne Bulpitt, UK Chief Commission and Kent County Commissioner, Harvey Kennett made a surprise visit.  Wayne and Harvey toured the site and talked to the young people about the camp and what they enjoyed most about camping.

Niall, 8, said “This is the best camp ever!” while his friend Ethan said ‘my favourite bit was the blindfold string trail’.

Older Cub, Sam aged 10 said about camp ‘Everything has been brilliant”
