GHANA 2018
During August 2018 a group of 25 Explorers, Networkers and Leaders from Kent Scouts participated in a Global Project to Ghana . They visited Woe in the Volta Region and carried out community service projects at two schools - the Future Academy and the Faith International School.
Some of the project team worked on construction projects which involved making hundreds of stone bricks and drying them in the heat. At the Future Academy they built and rendered an entirely new latrine block and at the Faith International the bricks were to be used for general building work. Other members of the team worked alongside the Ghanaian teachers in the classroom and also helped with sports activities.
At the weekends and after school the group went on a number of interesting excursions and did a variety of activities to learn about Ghanaian life, history and culture.
These included: a visit to a lighthouse; a boat trip to a island covered in shells; a visit to a monkey sanctuary; a hike to see some remote waterfalls; a visit to a local market; football matches and volley ball matches against the locals; a tour around a Cape Coast slave castle; a visit to a restaurant over a crocodile lake and a trek through a rainforest canopy walkway!
Kent Scouts are already planning a return visit to Ghana for 2022.
