1st Lydd Go Wild!!
By: Janet Thomas - DC, 1st Dymchurch, Romney Marsh

World Environment Day 5th June was marked by all Beavers and Cubs in the 1st Lydd Scout Group, who coloured and placed posters around the district to raise awareness of the importance of looking after the environment.

Following on from this initiative ‘30 Days Wild’ was the June Wildlife Challenge issued to the group as part of the Great Indoor Scouting Adventure.

Organised by the UK Wildlife Trust it encouraged youngsters to get involved in all things wild. Random Acts of Wildness included: bird boxes; bird surveys; colouring; bug hotels; photography; wormeries and re-connection with nature.

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers all joined in. Encouraged by Leaders and supported by their wonderful families, to do one wild thing a day for health, well-being and for the planet, they rose to the challenge in so many practical ways – we include just one example – there are many, many more. GSL, Val, stated she was extremely proud of the response from the youngsters and their families who, as always rose to the challenge and produced some impressive deluxe 5* Bug Hotels.

A huge thanks to everyone who took part.
