Kent County Show 2014

The sun shone most of the time at this year's Kent County Show and when it didn't the rain didn't dampen the spirits and enthusiasm of everyone who volunteered and came along to the Kent Scouts stand in Murrain Wood.  The Duke of Kent paid us a visit in his busy schedule and chatted to the volunteers on the stand about what they did in Scouting. 

The climbing tower and prusiking from the trees were very popular and the sight of youngsters dangling from trees was great.  The latest green screen technology was put to good use by the media team who enabled visitors to have a go at kayaking the Olympic course!  Visitors could then go home and download photos and video of their experience.

The tea team served hundreds of cups of tea and squash - which were much appreciated by volunteers and visitors alike.  The Duke of Kent was pleased that we were open to all visitors.

The monkey bridge constructed by St Lukes Maidstone Troop was very popular with younger visitors.

Once again we teamed up with the KM on their stand on the main showground and our team of face painters created some wonderful butterflies, birds and monsters during the three days of the show.  The Creed Outdoor learning tower was a huge attraction and could be seen from quite a distance around the showground.

Some of the team were interviewed live on BBC Radio Kent by Pat Marsh and Steve Ladner on Sunday and they were keen to learn about the technology used in Scouting these days.

Two of our climbing team had the nerve to take the pole challenge.  They needed nerves of steel to climb an 80 foot pole with hundreds of onlookers.  Well done Steve and Sam.

A great show with 75,000 visitors over three days - well done to everyone who helped in some way show Scouting to the county!
