County Show 2013

75,000 visitors flocked to the annual Kent County Show at Detling over three days from 12th - 14th July 2013.  The sun shone continuously and everyone had a great time!

This year Kent Scouts were pleased to partner with the Kent Messenger Group on their stand on the main showground.  A team from Kent Scouts ran zorb balls, hook a duck and painted faces.  On our usual stand in Murrain Wood the climbing team tried out a different kind of climbing wall supplied by Creed.  The rock face certainly attracted lots of people to have a go.  The team also made over 1000 cups of tea and spoke to lots of people about Scouting.  Speed stacking and wellie boot peg making proved popular.

The giant video wall certainly drew people into the woods and people were wowed by Bear Grylls and the films of young people having fun, so much so that over 60 adults and 200 young people signed up to "Join the Adventure" with Kent Scouts.

The 17th Tonbridge Scout and Guide Band made a little bit of Kent Scout history when they did the first "Flash Mob" in Murrain Woods.  The sound of a beating drum was heard first, followed by bugles and pipes.  They performed to the assembled crowds who were thoroughly entertained.  Later in the day they performed on the band stand and in the main arena.

Harvey and some of the team went on BBC Radio Kent and told the people of the county all about volunteering and the fun we all have!

Thanks to everyone who came along and of course the team who made it all happen - we couldn't have done it without you!
