Living Land

The Living Land at Detling is a day organised by the Kent County Agricultural Society and they invite over 3000 Primary school children to come along and learn about the countryside, where their food comes from and to meet face to face farm animals. The exhibitors range from the Bee Keeping Society, Tesco, Leeds Castle Birds of Prey, Stockbury Sausage makers, the RNLI and of course Kent Scouts - our Scouting programme has always focused on the outdoors and we take the opportunity to chat to children and teachers about Scouting and what we can offer them locally as well as at our centre, Lower Grange Farm.

The Living Land is divided into zones and we were in the Discovery zone, and every 35 minutes 600 children crowded into find out all about what was happening in the zone.  Our team helped the children make wellie boot pegs, see what items were in the feely bags, identify vegetables - not as easy as you would think when you are only nine years old, and for this year we made wiggly worms which were very popular.

Thanks to everyone who helped - we certainly worked hard, had fun and enjoyed the day - exactly what Scouting is about!
