Dean Harding awarded Silver Wolf Award

Our County Commissioner, Dean Harding, has been presented with the Silver Wolf Award for everything that he does for Scouting by James Palin, the Regional Commissioner for Scouting in the South East of England.

Dean has been a leader in Kent Scouts, holding a number of roles, over the past 35 years (yes he really is that old!), with his commitment to making sure young people have the best experience possible in their Scouting journeys being second to none.

From being a Group Skills Instructor in the 1980s to an Assistant Section Leader in the 1990's right up to being a District Commissioner and eventually our County Commissioner, plus everything in between, Dean has grafted as a volunteer within Kent Scouts and all his hard work hasn't gone unnoticed over the years earning him both his Award for Merit and Silver Acorn prior to this amazing award.

The Silver Wolf is only awarded for service of a most exceptional nature. It's not normally awarded until at least a Silver Acorn has been previously gained and a further prolonged period of exceptional service has been achieved. In practice, it's rarely awarded for less than 30 years’ service although, because it is the Chief Scout’s unrestricted gift, no length of service is prescribed. (Scouts.org.uk)

The presentation of this awesome award was done today whilst Dean was visiting the Kent Scouts Leaders’ Weekend at Kingswood, Ashford. Where loads of leaders from all across Kent Scouts are currently socialising and learning new skills... as well as having fun!
