Native American Beaver Scout Sleepover
Native American Beaver Scout Sleepover
138 Beaver Scouts from Kingshill & Mereworth, Dartford, Medway, Weald, Maidstone East & South, Swanley, and Tonbridge & Tunbridge Wells joined together on Saturday 27th March for a giant sleepover at Sutton Valence Preparatory School.
The theme for the event was ’Native American’s’. The Beavers had a great time making tepee, decorating totem poles & making costumes. Alison Sundridge from’ House of Rhythms’ did a drumming workshop which was amazing.
Two Native American’s dressed in their national regalia set the scene by telling them stories from long ago, and made medicine bags & dream catchers with the Beavers.
After supper as it started to get dark the Explorer and Scouts lead singing around a mock campfire which the Beaver thoroughly enjoyed especially as they could use their torches.
Beaver scouts are girls and boys age range 6 to 8 year olds and Sleepovers are part of the exciting programme where they can work towards awards and activities badges and build their confidence.
Kathy Smith Assistant County Commissioner for Kent Beavers presented the Beavers with the Nights away stage badge and the Creative Challenge badge at the closing ceremony on Sunday morning.
Thanks to the commitment of all the Leaders & Explorers and Scouts from Maidstone South District who helped run the event.
Thanks to Mrs Evans Head teacher at Sutton Valence Preparatory school for kindly hosting this special event for Kent Beaver Scouts.
