KN10
The highlight of the year for Kent Network was KN10. At the beginning of September 31 participants from throughout Kent enjoyed a fun-packed long weekend of activities in the Snowdonia National Park. Networkers from Faversham, Deal, Canterbury, Gravesham, Folkestone, Sevenoaks, Maidstone, Medway Towns, Swanley, Ashford, Gillingham and Malling attended. They camped at Capel Curig which was a great central location - it was only a basic open field camp site by a river but it did have hot showers!
On the Friday sixteen of the party went on an organised gorge walk which involved challenging walking and scrambling up a river valley. Friday evening was spent having a pub quiz in the Swallow Falls Hotel.
On Saturday morning five participants went off White Water Rafting at the National White Water Centre near Bala - highly recommended and exhilerating fun! They then went geocaching in the Betws-y-coed area on a beautiful forest walk.
The rest of the Networkers took to the hills for the day - one group climbed a local summit called Carnedd Moel-siabod and another group tackled the Glyders.
On Saturday evening a fancy dress disco was held at the campsite until the camp site warden asked for the noise to be kept down at 9.30pm! So the rest of the evening was spent chatting, drinking and building human pyramids!
A Scout's Own was held on Sunday morning with two minutes silence for Stephen Young. Everyone then got together for a big group photo. Sunday afternoon was spent enjoying the fantastic Beacon Indoor Mountain Climbing Centre in Carnafon and afterwards Power Kiting on Dinas Dinlle beach in some great conditions - strong winds and wonderful weather.
A great weekend was had by all and the dates for KN12 - which promises to be bigger & better - have already been set for 13th to 17th September 2012.
