Kent Cub Challenge - 12th June 2010
27 Teams from all around Kent took part in the annual Kent Cub Challenge held at the new Kent Scout Centre near Maidstone. Cubs took on the guise of 'Spies' for the day and tried their hand at all sorts of Spy activities.
A scene of crime was constructed and Cubs had to use their powers of observation. Communication for spies is very important and morse code, semaphore and mirror writing are all key skills they might need to be a good spy!
Over 30 different activities were available and target practice, crossing the river, survival skills and car driving (remotes!) were all on offer for the Cubs to hone their spy skills.
The teams competed for the unique Cub Challenge trophy and certificates. The eventual winners were a team of Cubs from Sevenoaks District - well done to them! Runner up were Folkestone and third place was Malling District.
The event had some special visitors during the day to look at fabulous acquisition of Lower Grange Farm, amongst them Rehman Chisti the new MP for Gillingham who made a special point of meeting the team from Gillingham - something to remember for the young people.
Thanks to everyone involved - our County Cub Scout Leaders, Tony, Linda and Pat who put helped with the overall plans and preparation. Thanks too, to all the Leaders who came along and helped man bases - much appreciated.
