Sevenoaks District Camp 2014

Sevenoaks District Scout camp named Mag7 was held at Westwood Farm in Scabharbour Lane, Weald, courtesy of local farmers the Hamlyns in May 2014.

Almost 500 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers took part with a further 250 adult leaders and helpers.

After the complete wash out of the event four years ago (it's held every four years) this one was a real scorcher.

The campsite was phenomenal and looked like a major festival There were flags flying and colourful 30ft gateways to the camping areas of the different Scout groups that make up the district. These gateways tested the Scouts' pioneering skills as they were made of poles lashed together and then decorated with flags and emblems representing the different countries the groups had chosen as their theme. Winner of this was the 4th Sevenoaks (St John's) Group.

The 12th Sevenoaks (Edenbridge) and 9th Sevenoaks (Seal) came second and third respectively. The 1st Sevenoaks (Hicks Own) of Oakhill Road came fourth.

There was a myriad of activities for all four different age groups, ranging from bungee running and sumo wrestling to archery, 'zorbing' in a giant inflatable ball, circus skills and space hopper football! A huge climbing wall was brought on site and the Scouts went off site for part of the weekend for water sports.

Parents clubbed together to help with the catering and the 'SAS' - Sevenoaks Active Support - of former leaders managed much of the considerable organisation, in particular Chris Mears and his wife, Rose, of Dunton Green.

Sevenoaks District Commissioner Lesley Rutter praised their efforts and those of everyone involved.
