Kent Cubs Going for Gold and Pudsey Bear!

Saturday 1st November saw almost 1500 Cubs arrive at the County Showground, at Detling, near Maidstone for a day of fun Olympic activities.  The weather was wet and windy but did not dampen the spirits of everyone.  Fortunately all the activities were inside the pavilions.

The whole day was in aid of the BBC Appeal for Children in Need and a very special visitor lit up the children’s faces when he arrived with the “Olympic flame” in the procession of flags.

Pudsey Bear, himself, was our very special guest for the day. He met all the Cubs and Leaders and was very pleased with the amount of money raised.

The Cubs brought along their pennies which they had been saving to add to the total which will exceed £3,000.  It took 10 people just to count it all up on the day!

The Cubs were able to test their skills at the various Olympic disciplines – Equestrian, Gym & Jump, Fencing and Stuff, Cycling and Rowing, Field and Track, Shooting and Weightlifting, Swimming and Balls!  You have to use your imagination with some of them – the Olympics haven’t yet included dressing up races using swimming rings, table football or fishing for ducks – but who knows what the future might bring.

2012 look out – some Kent Cubs could be in the running for a medal – after all they all gained a commemorative gold medal for taking part in our very special day.

Thanks and well done to everyone!  Watch out for Kent Cubs on the Children in Need Appeal night.  Live links from Dickens World, Chatham at 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Friday 14th November when we shall present our giant cheque with the final total to Pudsey Bear.
