Kent Cubs Big Day Out

2,307 Kent Cubs and their Leaders descended on the Historic Dockyard, Chatham for a Big Day Out.  Smugglers and Pirates were in abundance as lots of the youngsters and adults dressed (from the neck up!) to join in with the fun and of course a treasure hunt!

All the attractions at the dockyard were open and bustling with activity.  The Ropery saw the largest number of visitors ever shown around in one day.  HMS Gannet, HMS Cavalier and HMS Ocelot were busy all day long with Cubs exploring them and wondering what it would have been like to have sailed on them! 

The exhibitions in the massive slips were popular and the wooden walls tour was busy all day long with Cubs finding out about how HMS Victory was built at Chatham.

Everyone also got the chance to sail on the Kingswear Castle Paddlesteamer, for a short trip along the River Medway.  13 trips in one day is another record for the Paddlesteamer!

A very special visitor on the day was "Jamroll" - BPs very own Rolls Royce, which was given to him in 1929 by the Scouts to celebrate 21 years of the movement.  The Cubs and Leaders were delighted to get up close to something which our Founder treasured.  One special Cub Scout, Alice from the 1st Willesborough Cub Pack was chosen to have a ride in Jamroll - she won a Golden ticket!

The day finished with a Smuggler party led by the Hullabaloo roadshow.  Treasure, jamroll cakes and chocolate pirates were handed out to every Cub and bottles of "grog" were drunk!

Media coverage consisted of the Kent Messenger and Meridian TV.  Both have given us superb coverage!
