Area Cub Trip to Duxford
West Kent Area Cubs
Outing to Duxford Saturday 17 October 2009
On a bright cold October morning 250 Cubs, Leaders and parent helpers left Tunbridge Wells in five coaches, all named after famous aircraft, heading to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. They were equipped with clipboards and on arrival left enthusiastically went out onto the airfield to answer questions and complete a worksheet on aircraft and airfield safety.
The worksheets had been produced by the Duxford Educational Department especially for the Cub Air Activity Badge. The Cubs visited hangers, saw aircraft memorabilia of the wars, climbed through aircraft and even saw aircraft flying.
After eating a packed lunch in the schools shelter or outside they enjoyed the rest of the afternoon completing their worksheets. Everyone returned to a fleet of waiting parents in Tunbridge Wells laden with various gifts.
I must thank Tracy and Sheila especially as they took control at the last minute due to my having a serious heart condition and being unable to go, a bitter disappointment.
However, I was there to meet them all and hear the wonderful buzz of excitement of them getting off the coaches and meeting their families. Thanks too to all the leaders and parent helpers for making the day such a success.
