Kent Cubs Trip to Disneyland 2011

102 333 Cubs and Leaders embarked on an exciting trip to Disneyland on Friday 28th January 2011.  Excitement was mounting as everyone met at the two departure points - Medway and Ashford.  Eight coachloads named after characters - Mary Poppins, Monsters Inc, Beauty and the Beast, The Incredibles, 101 Dalamatians, Alice in Wonderland, The Lion King and Pirates of the Carribean.  Luggage loaded and we were soon off and on our way.  First stop at the Eurotunnel terminal for a short wait - much excitement amongst children and the adults all anticipating what they will see at Disney.

All the coaches made good time and we arrived at the newly re-furbished Davy Crockett Ranch by 12.15pm.  All 066 tucked up safely in their cabins the Cubs and leaders got a good night's sleep!  Breakfast was very french - croissants, brioche and french bread - usually accompanied by the Disney channel on the TVs.

The coaches left for the parks and everywhere was a sea of red hats and red bags - we were very easy to spot!  A day of thrilling rides, encounters with characters and loads of fun awaited everyone.  Groups quickly dispersed and disappeared into the park to queue for the rides and have an amazing time.  We all met up at 5.30pm for our dinner at Planet Hollywood for character dining Kent Cubs style!  Our coach leaders all dressed up as their characters and looked absolutely great.  The children really enjoyed seeing them.  We celebrated four birthdays - Kathy Smith, Kelvin Holford, Claire Groves and James Truelove-Ralph was 10 - I won't tell you how old the others were!!!

Back to the park for a couple of hours - all lit up and looking spectacular and then home to the ranch and some tired Cubs and leaders went to bed - others went for a walk to explore the ranch!

On Sunday we went into the Walt Disney studios park - some went to the Stunt Moteur Action show which was thrilling and others braved Terror Towers!  We came up close and personal with all the characters from Toy Story and felt as if we were miniature.  It was soon time to leave and with coaches loaded we were soon on our way.  We all met up at the terminal at Coquelles to say our final goodbyes to each other as we wouldn't see the Ashford coaches again.  Picnics were had in unusual places and last minute shopping done.

One Cub from Northfleet has said he had the "best day of his life" and veteran Disney goers have said it was the best trip ever. One thing for sure is that everyone had a great time.   A great team effort made it happen and we know that it will be something that many will remember forever.  Thanks to all the Leaders who took a leap of faith and brought their Packs along - we know you had fun!  Special thanks to all the coach leaders, Ken, Harvey, James, Jim, Rob, Zoe, Kathy S, Kathy M, Kim, Nigel, Linda W, Linda L, Neil and Ian  - we couldn't have done it without you!
