Active8 - 2011

Hundreds of Leaders and young people flocked through the doors at the County Showground, Detling for a day packed full of information and surprises.  70 exhibitors were on hand, with the Kent Scout sections and teams  showcasing everything that there is on offer to Kent Scouts and promoting events that are happening in our County.

Outside exhibitors were there too - tourist attractions, campsites, resources to buy - everything from cutlery, clothing, tents and all kinds of stuff to do with Scouting.  Business was brisk with stands busy from start to finish.

The Scout Info Centre and Unity Insurance were on hand to answer all those questions you always wanted to ask and provide useful resources for everyone present.

The KIJ13 team had a high tech stand which attracted registered interest from over 3,000 potential campers - it's going to be the biggest and best KIJ to date!

The 2011 Jamboree contingent took the opportunity to do some fundraising and enlightened people about Sweden and all that it has to offer.

B & Q "You can do it" classes were on offer showing people how to make a mug tree and change a tap washer - all linking in with Cub and Scout DIY badges.  There was also the chance to have a go at pottery painting and some simple crafts - so lots of new ideas.

Seminars ran throughout the day covering a series of topics including "Turning 18" and "Funding Opportunities".

Nearly 2,000 cups of tea and coffee were served by the refreshment team, led by Linda - thanks to all of them!  Chubbies were there too with their famous cheesy chips which went down a treat!

"Excellent", "Brilliant", "Grea8" and "An ideal home show of Scouting" are just some of the comments  made.  All in all a great day - everyone went home with plenty of ideas to share in their sections, Groups and Districts.

Thanks to everyone who helped make Active8 happen - a great day for Scouting in Kent!
