Beavers Celebrate 25 Years

The Cotton Powell Museum House & gardens at Birchington in Thanet was host to Kent Beaver Scouts on their 25th Birthday Challenge celebration on 21st & 22nd May 2011 at Quex Park!

1700 boys and girls and their Leaders from all over Kent took part in 25 challenges during the weekend! The 6 to 8 yrs old were able to try their hand at archery, cross bows, water activities, science experiments, crafts, games, nature trail, drumming work shop.  ‘It’s a knock out ‘& ‘Last one standing ‘two amazing inflatables and lots more in the beautiful gardens.

Keith,  the education officer and staff took the Beavers back in time telling stories from long ago! The youngsters had free time to wonder through the museum and look at the wonderful collection of artifacts and animals from Africa and around the world!

The Network section devised an incident hike in the park so the Beavers could gain their Hikes Away and Adventure badges!

In true Scouting spirit over a £1,000 will be donated towards two African charities. The Borstal Scout Group in Rochester has a very original idea of fund raising!  For the cost of £2 the price of an ice cream you can buy a badge!  This money will provide youngsters in Africa, Scouting for one year! They also collected pennies in a caldron on the day raising £500 which was amazing!

The local Spitfires Explorer Unit in Thanet is planning a trip to assist with “The Kenyan Street Children” charity in 2012.   They are planning to provide assistance with building projects and feeding programmes. A selection of 120 Leaders, Explorers, Scouts and Active Support members from various parts of Kent helped run bases on both days which were truly inspirational!

The Hullabaloo Road Show brought this special birthday celebration to a close with a big bang and singing happy birthday and cutting the sweetie cake for everyone to share!

This was a very special birthday celebration for Kent Beaver Scouts and one we hope they will remember in years to come!
